Descending colon - the downward portion
of the colon between the spleen and the sigmoid colon.
Diarrhea - the condition in
which bowel movements are liquid and more frequent than usual.
Distal - closer to the anus
(downstream).
Distension - an uncomfortable
swelling the abdomen, often caused by excessive fluids and
gas in the intestine.
Diverticulitis - an inflammation
of the small sacs (diverticula) in the inner lining of the
intestine that protrude through the intestinal wall.
Duodenum - the first portion
of the small intestine between the stomach and jejunum.
Dysplasia - alterations in
cells that may predict the development of cancer.
