Tenesmus - a persistent urge
to empty the bowel, usually caused by an inflammation of the
rectum.
Thrombosis - a blood clot.
Total abdominal colectomy -
the surgical removal of the entire colon.
Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
- the feeding of a nutrient solution through a catheter (tube)
placed in a large vein; it is used to provide nutrition to
severely malnourished patients, allow the bowel to rest, prepare
malnourished patients for surgery, or to restore poorly nourished
patients after surgery.
Toxic megacolon - an acute
swelling of the colon caused by colitis or Crohn's disease,
and may lead to perforation.
Transverse colon - the portion of
the colon between the ascending colon and the spleen.
